T.R.U.E. Mentor Program
Mentoring helps young people, especially at-risk youth, succeed in school, work, and life.
In 2017 and 2018, Centerboard was fortunate to be able to host a MA Mentoring AmeriCorp Ambassador to launch our Mentor Program, T.R.U.E. (Teach one, Reach one, Uplift one, Empower one). Our program aims to provide academic and social support for boys ages 8 to 18 by helping them to increase their motivation and confidence, achieve new goals, give direction to their academic and future career choices, and by helping them to gain leadership roles. Our program is community-based, heavily involves parents, and all family members have access to an array of services at our Family Resource Center, including ESOL classes, Homework Club, Driver’s Ed, Art Classes, Case Management/Referrals, etc.
Why Come to TRUE?
We offer group and one-on-one programming.
Over this past summer, we walked along side youth as they experienced loss of family members, housing crises, and new mental health diagnoses. Although many of these circumstances may be detrimental, and definitely life changing, we made sure our mentees could embrace their process, empower their perseverance and envision their purpose through the storm. We also celebrated our clients who either graduated or moved on to the next grade by enjoying a meal at Tokyo Grill hibachi. Finally, since many of our youth may have absent fathers, we made sure to acknowledge present mothers and grandmothers taking them to Bella Luna to enjoy a meal. Mentees shared words of affirmation for their mom’s/grandma’s and for the first time were able to express love in a way they had never experienced.
We believe these amazing values will continue to build up our young leaders and prepare them for college, university and their long term goals! Come join us!
