D.S was a single mother battling social and economic barriers, a struggle that had taken a toll on her life and her two children. At first, life in the shelter was overwhelming. The loss of privacy, constant worry, and uncertainty about the future weighed heavily on D.S. However, she was determined to rebuild their lives. After three years in the shelter, D.S was chosen to participate in a rental assistance program in Boston and was offered a voucher with a 3 bedroom apartment. Her caseworker helped her and her children move into a cozy three-bedroom apartment in a safe neighborhood.
